Status of content in the catalogue

A ‘catalogue status’ is applied to content in the GEANZ Standards and Guidance Catalogue. Find out when and why each catalogue status is applied.

List of catalogue statuses

Each catalogue status is independent of the status of content set by the responsible organisations.

The following list of catalogue status values includes the descriptions and details on when each status should apply.

Accepted

‘Accepted’ content is only published when there is:

  • an authorising organisation
  • content that is acceptable and viable
  • content that can be used by government agencies, but has no advantage over similar content that would make it 'Recommended'.

Or, either of the following points is true instead

  • Australian Standards/Standards New Zealand (AS/NZS) standards have a minimum ‘Accepted’ status, however they are only added when there is a specific reason for it.
  • International Organisation for Standards (ISO) would generally be ‘Accepted’, unless they are ‘Not Accepted’ due to conflict with local legislation or standards, however they are only added when there is a specific reason for it.

Development

‘Development’ content will only be published when there is:

  • an authorising NZ government organisation
  • content that could have a wide NZ government application
  • content under development by an NZ government organisation.

Or, the following point is true instead

  • Content is under development by an external standards body with the involvement of an NZ government organisation.

Future consideration

‘Future consideration’ content will only be published when there is:

  • an authorising NZ government organisation
  • content that has been added to the catalogue, but has not been reviewed and allocated a long-term catalogue status yet.

Informational

‘Informational’ is used when there is no authorising NZ government organisation and the content entry was referenced when developing NZ government content.

Or, the following point is true instead

The content is considered to provide valuable context or information that is likely to be of use across NZ government agencies — for example, when researching a relevant topic.

Mandated

‘Mandated’ is used when content is mandated by either:

  • Parliament, as in legislation
  • Cabinet, as in a Cabinet minute
  • an NZ government organisation with the authority to do so — for example, a system lead or a role specified in legislation.

Not accepted

‘Not accepted’ is used when it has been determined that a standard is not to be used in the NZ public sector. This could be when it is considered to have features that are incompatible with other:

  • standards
  • policies — including legislation.

Recommended

‘Recommended’ is used when:

  • an authorising NZ government organisation with the authority to recommend content has done so
  • content has advantages that make it more preferred over other ‘Accepted’ content — this could also be for strategic reasons to guide future digital investment.

Shared

‘Shared’ is used for when an NZ government organisation has shared an architectural standard or pattern with other NZ government organisations.

This sharing initiative is led by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment who have formed a ‘Standards and Patterns Community of Practice’.

Contact architecturegovernance@MBIE.govt.nz to join the Community of Practice.

Withdrawn

‘Withdrawn’ content will only be published when there:

  • is, or was, an authorising NZ government organisation
  • is content that may still be in use in legacy and heritage situations, but should be avoided for any new work.

Withdrawn standards and guidance will appear in the catalogue by exception. Generally, the catalogue only contains recently withdrawn content.

The previous catalogue-status value name was ‘Deprecated’.
