The economic case for increasing digital inclusion
The Digital Council for Aotearoa New Zealand commissioned NZIER to explore the rationale for government investment in digital inclusion.
Note: As of March 2023, the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) has concluded the digital inclusion programme.
While digital inclusion remains an important issue for Aotearoa New Zealand, DIA currently has no sustainable funding to progress this work.
We appreciate the support and interest shown in digital inclusion through the course of this programme — thanks for being part of its journey.
The research by the New Zealand Institute of Economic Research (NZIER) for the Digital Council of Aotearoa, provided government with:
- a clear social and economic rationale for investing in increasing digital inclusion
- advice on how to get the greatest return on investment in digital inclusion.
Digital inclusion is intertwined with individual, societal, and economic inclusion and wellbeing and makes a significant contribution to the evidence on digital inclusion in Aotearoa New Zealand.
